OSRC Suggestion Box

If there is something new you would like to see on OSRC, a hardware or a software feature or perhaps a new accessory or module then post about it here. We monitor all member suggestions and shall try our best to implement in one way or another your ideas. Feel free to publish your post as a poll and see what others think about it as well. Although not always true, most of the time most popular ideas are the ones to more likely become a reality in our day to day improvement of the system.

Hey OSRC Developers im just curious since this is an open source project that means the schematics for the boards and parts and everything are freely available correct? well i was just wondering what the parts cost would be to build the biggest most powerful top of the range model as well as the receiver and GPS and sensor model, anyway if i can get it to fall within my budget id love to attempt to build one when i get the chance for obvious reasons because im already in love with this thing tho i cant afford it but if i had one i could help improve it (if thats even possible!) anyway it would be a challenge to build but i'm up to it im young (19) so i got all the time in the world plus at the very least it would be good to get an opinion from someone on the other side of the world :) plus ive always wanted to be an engineer and this would be a great project for me to study and give input where i can, you can contact me at This email address is being protected from spambots. The files for the first OSRC prototype created, are available in the Files section of the website. The latest version of the system is unavailable for the time being I'm afraid. Unfortunately stating a price of BOM for a single system would be impossible since it would depend on the pricing of the supplier you choose, way of producing the parts and time needed to assemble the system. Feel free to view the files and determine if it is something you can build based on them as well as determine pricing for parts needed for your build.

It is best you know from the start that making OSRC on your own is not a easy task even for an experienced engineer and many aspects must be taken into consideration as well as specialized equipment for assembly.

Have in mind that most PCB's on the system are more than 4 layers with a clearance of at least 6mil or less with most components being SMD. Enclosure components need clearance accuracy of at least +-0.05mm to fit and function as intended.

Good luck :)

Can you give me a ball park pice on components, what does it cost you? and yeah that sounds pretty tricky but I have no doubt with time I could do it the only problem I have is I need pcb files to work from. :)

It cost me 2 years of my life in a ball park and all i had :) Feel free to view the schematics and do the math on the PCB components if you like.

There are some suggestions in this thread that make sense. Is there a way to add a perk for getting a discount on the actual OSRC product?? Not sure if that can be done legally, but you do give a discount on the body of the OSRC system for the higher perks. So why not add a perk for a discount on the OSRC body without buying the pinter parts.

Since more people are interrested in the OSRC itself instead of the 3d printer. That would hopefully interrest more people to contribute money (mayby higher numbers of contributers aswell as higher amounts of money) if it gets them a discount on the final product.

Axel.

Giving a Discount and having a perk for a certain amount would signify the final price of the finished system. Since the final price is not known until the system is built through the 3D printed method i cannot offer a discount and place a price for it.

In the perks a "First in Line" offer is mentioned. This is the best i can offer for the time being. I will see about the discount (seems to be allowed on IndieGoGo) but it shall not be the exact amount, rather than an approximation.
